New World’s Largest Indoor Snow Centre to Open Next Year

A new indoor ski area under construction at Shenzhen in China is set to be completed and open to the public next year in November 2025, according to reports from the region.

The Huafa Super Snow Centre within the larger Huafa Ice and Snow World is being built in the city’s Bao’an District and will incorporate an indoor deep-sea diving centre as well as a large office complex.

The reports claim that the Huafa Super Snow Centre will have 100,000 square metres of indoor snow space, to overtake the current largest, also in China, Harbin Bonski, which has an indoor snow area of 72,600sqmn. So the new centre will have about half as much indoor snow area again.

However the longest slope length of 441 metres for the Huafa Super Snow Centre would only be around the world’s 8th longest. A planned indoor vertical of 83 metres would be the world’s second greatest though, behind France’s Amneville with a 90 metre vertical and also the world’s second longest indoor snow slope at 620 metres.

Chinese media report that the Huafa Super Snow Centre will have a year-round temperature maintained at -3 to -5 degrees Celsius and that the centre has been designed to be able to host  international skiing competitions sanctioned by the International Ski & Snowboard Federation (FIS).
