Big SNOW Probably Staying Closed into 2022 Following Fire

Big SNOW American Dream, North America’s only indoor real-snow ski and snowboard centre, has announced it will be staying closed into the new year.

The centre, located in New Jersey, was damaged by an internal fire high up in the facility in the early hours of 25th September.  Nobody was harmed in the blaze.  It was initially hoped the resulting closure would be a period of weeks, but this has not proved to be the case,

“Our team has made great progress in the reopening process; however, we are not yet ready to welcome you back to Big SNOW as there are still several items that need to be addressed. Based on current timelines, we are tracking towards an early 2022 re-opening. We remain optimistic that this can change for the better, but we wanted to be transparent with you,” a statement from the centre on October 29th explained.

The cause of the fire has recently been revealed to be an electrical problem by officials but its unclear how much damage was done. The centre was built around 2008 but mothballed for more than a decade due to the impact of the worldwide economic crash. During that time its roof was damaged by heavy winter snowfall at one point but repaired. It finally opened in late 2019 shortly before the coronavirus pandemic hit
