Snow Abu Dhabi Nearing Completion

What is being billed as “one of the world’s largest snow parks” is due to open “later this year” as part of a giant new mall complex in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, the people behind it say.

Construction of the massive USD $1.2billon Reem Mall retail project and surrounding transport link upgrades are reported to be currently “95 per cent complete” by the developers.

The indoor snow centre, as part of the 2 million square foot mall, which will also house 450 shops, was first announced in 2018 and at that point, pre-pandemic, had a target 2020 opening date.

At that point no specific name and no exact size of the indoor snow park were published, but that has now changed with the name ‘Snow Abu Dhabi’ and ‘one of the world’s largest snow parks’.

The 9,300 sqm snow park will be covered in snow 50cm/20” deep year round, be maintained at -2C, and will feature rides and character theming created by a team that incorporates American theme-park designers Thinkwell and the company behind Ski Dubai and several other indoor snow parks in the region, Majid Al Futtaim Ventures.

Attractions will include “Flight of the Snowy Owl” billed as, “a suspended journey over the enchanted forest offering breathtaking views of the project.” Other rides include The Magic Carpet, Polar Express Train, Crystal Carousel and Ice and Floes Bumper Tubes, which are all currently reported to be in the testing phase.  Trolls Bowl, Drifts Downhill Run and Snow Hares Bunny Hill, are all nearing completion too.  The Snowflake Garden will be the place to build a snowman, enjoy a snowball fight or navigate the ice labyrinth.  Other attractions are expected to be added ahead of the autumn opening.
