New Indoor Snow Centre Opens in India, World’s 150th

A new indoor snow centre called Snow World has opened in the Indian city of Ahmedabad.

It is believed to be the 150th to be built worldwide, of which 115 are currently operational in 33 countries.

Ahmemad is a city of 5.5 million people located north of Mumbai in the province of Gujarat on the West side of India.  Outdoor temperatures are regularly 30-40C but the new facility operates at -10C.

Located in the Ahmedabad One Mall the facility covers 1,850sqm (20,000 sq ft) and activities include a 20 metre (75 feet) long toboggan run.  There is also ‘natural’ snowfall from the roof.

The centre is believed to be India’s 11th currently operating, placing the country second only to Chinas in terms of the number of centres it has. However most Indian centres offer “snow fun experiences” rather the snowsports whereas most centres in China offer skiing and snowboarding.

According to website IndoorSnowNews.com, the centre is also the 34th worldwide to be called ‘SnowWorld’.

“We have pushed the boundaries of innovation to make Snow World the most loved amusement destination in India. We hope that with our relentless efforts, we will be able to surprise guests with its unique offerings and keep increasing the entertainment quotient that leaves guests with a sense of excitement,” Operations manager Paramjit Singh Gupta said.

Open from 11am to 7.30pm daily, visitors are provided with winter weather clothing with tickets priced at Rs 600 per person for a one hour visit.
