Work Progresses on ‘World’s Largest Snowpark’

Work is progressing on Abu Dhabi’s upcoming $1.2bn Reem Mall which will feature the world’s largest indoor snow park is on track for a 2020 opening, its developer Al Farwaniya Property have announced.

The project had been due to open in 2018 but has been delayed. Work finally got underway in late 2017 with 13 tower cranes erected and more than 55,000 m3 of concrete laid for the foundations.

Located in the Najmat District on Reem Island, the new mall will include Snow Park Abu Dhabi, a destination snow park attraction.  This multi-snow fun activities area will feature on snow attractions including sledging and zorbing. 

The complex will also hold more than 450 retail stores, restaurants, and entertainment concepts.

Shane Eldstrom, CEO of Al Farwaniya Property Developments said: “The cranes are on site, we have nearly completed the substructure and have already completed several sections of floor in the superstructure.”

Al Farwaniya Property is a joint venture between Kuwait logistics firm Agility, its United Projects for Aviation Services Company unit and Kuwait’s National Real Estate Company, awarded a Dhs2.3bn ($626.1m) contract to UAE-Italy joint venture Itinera Ghantoot for the project.

The development was originally handled by the National Real Estate Company (NREC) and United Projects for Aviation Services Company (UPAC).

The precise dimensions of the “new world’s largest indoor snow park” have not been announced.
