World’s Largest Hotel Grows Around Indoor Snow Centre
Malaysia’s First World Hotel is expanding its position as the world’s largest hotel, with development continuing to cluster around its indoor snow and entertainment complex in the country’s Genting Highlands.
The property, located about 50 kilometres north of capital Kuala Lumpur, now comprises 7,351 rooms across three connected buildings, a figure that has kept it in the Guinness World Records since 2015.
Originally opened in stages from 2006, the hotel first launched with more than 6,000 rooms before a brief loss of its title in 2008. A major expansion in 2015 added a further 1,233 rooms, restoring its top ranking. Its brightly coloured façade and vast footprint dominate the mountaintop resort, which is accessed by road or cable car.

The hotel’s growth has been driven by the adjoining First World Plaza, a large indoor complex featuring shops, dining, Skytropolis Funland and Snow World indoor snow centre. Thios offers ice slides and sub-zero play areas. These attractions provide a cool-weather contrast to Malaysia’s tropical climate and remain a major draw for families.
Further expansion continues across the wider Genting resort, including the nearby Genting SkyWorlds theme park and Malaysia’s only legal casino, ensuring nightly demand for the hotel’s extensive room inventory.
