Australia’s Winter Sports World Completes “Breakthrough Year”
Australia’s Winter Sports World, the long‑anticipated indoor snow resort planned for Penrith in Western Sydney, has capped off 2025 with its most significant progress to date, including a landmark operating agreement with global industry leader Bonski.
First conceptualised more than a decade ago and publicly unveiled after the site’s rezoning in 2015, the $700 million project aims to deliver Australia’s first year‑round indoor snow destination. The facility will feature a 300‑metre advanced ski and snowboard run, Olympic‑standard training zones, a major snow play area, and a world‑class hotel with dining, spa and conferencing facilities, all housed within an architecturally striking, fully electric, carbon‑neutral building.
Momentum accelerated throughout 2025. NSW Premier Chris Minns toured the site earlier this year, describing the development as the “jewel in the crown of Western Sydney,” underscoring its growing economic and tourism significance.
The project’s biggest milestone came with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with Bonski, the world’s largest operator of indoor snow centres. The agreement, signed in China in the presence of NSW Minister for Trade Anoulack Chanthivong, brings Bonski’s global expertise in snowmaking, operations, guest experience and energy‑efficient performance into the delivery framework. Bonski will provide design consulting, pre‑opening strategy and long‑term operational management, strengthening the project’s commercial readiness as it progresses through its capital raise.
With planning approvals secured and the project now shovel‑ready, Winter Sports World is expected to generate more than 2,700 jobs and inject over $220 million annually into the Western Sydney economy once operational.
Construction timelines are advancing, with the development team targeting an opening soon after the completion of Western Sydney International Airport, local media reports, positioning the resort as a flagship tourism drawcard for the region.
