New Ice-Climbing World Record Set In Indoor Snow Centre
Adventurer Mathias Ekornås has set a new world record by ice climbing 7760 vertical metres in under 24 hours.
Climber Mathias Ekornås, who is aiming to climb the 7 highest mountains on each continent in under 24 hours, has set a new ice-climbing world record, 7,760 vertical metres in under 24 hours.
The achievement meant he had to climb the ice wall at Norway’s SNØ centre more than 485 times.
Ekornås had originally set an initial target of climbing the height of Mount Vinson in Antarctica, 4892m, but then kept climbing after he achieved that.
“What an achievement – awesome job Mathias!” a SNØ spokesperson commented.
During the record attempt novice climbers were given the chance to try ice climbing themselves, with an instructor helping them on the same wall Ekornås was racing up.
