Alpine-X Continuing Virginia Snow Centre Project Despite Losing Exclusive Rights

Alpine-X, which plans to unveil multiple indoor snow centres across North America say their plans for a centre in Virginia, despite their exclusive rights to the site where they plan to build it, remain live.

The development, known as “Fairfax Peak”, was first announced in 2018 but construction is yet to begin and Alpine-X’s exclusive rights to the site expired on December 31st.

“We are taking extra time to deal with the dramatic increases in construction cost and interest rates,” Alpine-X CEO John Emery told FFXnow told local media, “Since we build projects with a long-term view we make every effort to ensure the future financial success of a project prior to breaking ground.”

Since launching Alpine-X have announced plans to build further indoor snow centres in Texas as part of a nationwide roll out.

However, costs have also increased with Fairfax Peak’s expected cost increasing by 25% from $400 million to $500 million.

There’s currently one indoor snow centre in north America, Big SNOW in New Jersey, which was built in 2008 and eventually opened in 2019.
